What is the Area Converter?

Area measures a surface. Property in India is quoted in many units — carpet area in sq ft, plots in gaj or guntha, and farmland in acres or bigha.

How does it work?

Every unit is defined by an exact factor relative to the square metre. The value is converted to the square metre and then to the target unit, so any pair of units can be converted consistently. Results are shown with up to 10 significant digits. Traditional land units are defined in square feet using their most common official values.

Frequently asked questions

How big is a bigha?

It depends on the state: about 14,400 sq ft in West Bengal and Assam, 17,424 sq ft in Gujarat and 27,225 sq ft (pucca bigha) in Rajasthan. Always confirm the local definition.

How many square feet in a gaj?

One gaj (square yard) is 9 square feet.
