What is the ROI Calculator?

ROI measures the gain or loss from an investment relative to its cost.

How does it work?

ROI = (amount returned − amount invested) ÷ amount invested. If you enter a period, the annualised ROI uses the compound growth formula.

Formula

ROI % = (Return − Investment) ÷ Investment × 100
Annualised = (Return ÷ Investment)^(1/years) − 1

Example

Investing ₹1 lakh and getting back ₹1.5 lakh after 2 years is a 50% ROI, or 22.47% a year.

Frequently asked questions

Why annualise ROI?

A 50% return over 2 years is very different from 50% over 10 years. Annualising makes investments with different durations comparable.
