What is the Power Converter?

Power is energy per unit time. Car engines are rated in hp or PS, air conditioners in tons, and appliances in watts.

How does it work?

Every unit is defined by an exact factor relative to the watt. The value is converted to the watt and then to the target unit, so any pair of units can be converted consistently. Results are shown with up to 10 significant digits.

1 hp = 745.7 W
1 PS = 735.5 W
1 AC ton = 3,516.85 W

Example

100 hp = 74.57 kW. A 1.5-ton AC removes about 5.28 kW of heat.

Frequently asked questions

Does a 1.5-ton AC consume 5.28 kW?

No. Tons measure cooling capacity; electricity use is lower and depends on the AC’s efficiency (star rating).
